| This 30 year old patient had breast augmentation surgery 2 years ago but has since developed “bottoming out” of her implants and symmastia. Symmastia - commonly referred to as “breadloafing” or “uni-boob”, occurs when two implants touch one another in the center of the chest. If the horizontal muscle that is connected to the sternum and goes across the implant is cut during surgery, then the implant can move toward the middle of the chest. She and her husband met with Dr. Pousti several times to make sure they had all of their questions answered. They felt very comfortable with Dr. Pousti’s expertise with this type of revisionary surgery.

In the operating room, Dr. Pousti takes his time to achieve the best results he can for the patient. For correction of symmastia, the procedure can take from 2-3 hours depending on how much work is involved. Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Pousti takes his time in the operating room to make sure that he does what he can to achieve the patient’s results. The repair of symmastia requires additional surgery to move the implant back into the pocket of original placement.
• An incision is made (usually along the breast crease) to expose the underlying tissue, muscle, and implant.
• The tissue that encapsulates the implant is cut and rolled back to fit into the pocket.
• Tissue is sutured together to hold implant in place.
• The muscle is then sutured internally back in place, connecting the sternum.
• The incision is then sutured close.

Tape is used to stabilize the area after surgery and to allow for correct healing.

The patient is post-op breast augmentation surgery with silicone gel implants with correction of her symmastia and the implant mal-position — she is very happy with her results.

Testimonial:
I developed symmastia by a surgeon in Upland California over 2 years ago. I always knew there was a problem with my breasts. This surgeon kept telling me that everything was fine and they looked great. I started to become self conscious about my breasts and it effected my self esteem. After 2 years of being unhappy, I finally started going to other surgeons to find out their opinions. Surgeon after surgeon told me I had symmastia and not one of them had the confidence in repairing it. I finally came upon Dr. Pousti. From the moment I met him, I felt comfortable. Dr. Pousti exuded confidence and assured me that he could make my breasts look beautiful!! I was nervous the day of surgery but Dr. Pousti and his surgical team made me feel relaxed and comfortable. I was so excited the day my bandages were removed. I could not believe the difference!! I was truly shocked at the results. Dr. Pousti and his staff treat you as if you were family. They are always so helpful and kind. Dr. Pousti is an amazing surgeon!! Thank you so much Dr. Pousti and team for a wonderful experience. You have truly changed my life!! |
